Sobriety was the only choice for me. Moderation didn’t work. Alcohol was a main character in my life and it was time for us to full break up. Even though my drinking problem didn’t look anything like the rock bottom we’ve seen in media for decades, it was just that—problem drinking. An addiction and dependency to a substance we are raised to believe isn’t a drug.

Rarely, my husband will nurse a beer socially, but even he prefers a NA beer these days.

I did not. AA was created by men under religious precepts so long ago that it didn’t relate to me today. I chose to use apps like Reframe and read sober literature to educate myself the best I could.

My sobriety date is January 3, 2021. It started as Dry January and then I just never wanted to go back because I felt free … finally.

Mocktails aren’t for everyone. For some, it can be trigerring and influence relapse. For me, it was a savior. It allowed me to have that placebo effect without having a sugary drink. I also actually enjoyed the taste or mojitos and margaritas etc so I am happy I can still enjoy a social drink with my friends without the alcohol.
